Magyarul itt.

The Compact Calendar is an excellent planning tool for projects of several months and general mid-term planning. It was designed by David Seah as a fine balance between traditional month-by-month calendars and the Gantt chart.

Its advantages are the following:

• About a year can be easily seen in a single page,
• The weeks of the 1st of months are continuous, these weeks are not shown twice and there is no false distance from two consecutive months,
• As notes are not written directly “inside” the days but are linking to them from the note area, there is no inefficient empty space on not-so-busy days and likewise busy periods can have enough notes.
• Unlike the Gantt chart, it “respects” weekends and makes it easy to mark events happening on the same weekday.

Of course, monthly calendars and Gantt charts have their own legitim uses when you think in months and uniform days, respectively; but I really like this template for thinking in weeks and planning for couple of months ahead.

I localized the calendar to include Hungarian holidays (and swap work- and non-work days), you can download it as an XLS file of PDF in both languages.

Update: I have just discovered that despite not linked from Dave’s site, Zoltán has updated his translation for 2009, too. However, I needed more accurate handling of weekend holidays and swap days and preferably and English language, Hungarian holiday combo, so I feel it still makes sense to share my versions too.

In Hungarian:

A kompakt naptár egy nagyszerű tervezőeszköz több hónapig tartó munkákhoz és általános középtávú tervezésre. David Seah munkája, és egy remek átmenet a hagyományos havi naptárak és a Gantt diagram között.

Az előnyei a következők:

• Körülbelül egy teljes évet láthatunk egyetlen oldalon,
• A hónapok elején és végén lévő hetek folytonosak, ezek a hetek nincsenek duplán ábrázolva és nincs látszólagos extra távolság két hónap között,
• Mivel a bejegyzéseket nem közvetlenül a napokba kell írni, hanem összekötve a napot az üres területtel, nem marad felesleges üres terület az eseménytelen napokon illetve mindig van elég hely a további szövegnek.
• A Gantt charttal ellentétben “tiszteletben tartja” a hétvégét és könnyű átlátni hetente ismétlődő eseményeket.

Persze a havi naptáraknak és a Gantt diagramnak is megvannak a megfelelő alkalmazási területei, például rendre a naptári hónapokban és az egyforma napokban gondolkodó munkákban; de ez a sablon nagyon hasznos, ha pár hónapra előre, vagy hetekben kell tervezni.

Lokalizáltam és lefordítottam a naptárat, így a magyar ünnepnapok és felcserélt szombati munkanapok is szerepelnek benne, mindkét nyelven letölthetőek XLS vagy PDF fájl formájában.
